Arizona Solar Electric – Crossroads Solar Energy Project

More money is being invested into building solar infrastructure in the Arizona solar electric industry. Arizona will not only be home to the 280 megawatt Solana Generating Station. Recently, the Arizona Commission approved a 150 megawatt Crossroads Solar Energy Project. Like the Solana station, this project will also be built near Gila Bend in Arizona’s Maricopa county.

As always, with any large infrastructure project, there will be many economic and financial benefits for the Arizona solar electric industry and the state. Job creation is just one of the benefits. It will take approximately 450 construction workers to complete the project over a two-year period. In addition to this, about 5,000 more jobs will be created both directly and indirectly. For example, there will be a lot of need for off-site suppliers and other supporting roles.

Annually, the Crossroads Solar Energy Project will create 450,000 megawatt hours of green electricity. This is projected to be used to power up to 100,000 homes at peak times of the day when electricity is used most. And again, like the Solana project, it will help the state of Arizona reach its renewable energy goal of having 15% of the state’s power generated by renewable resources by 2025.

The project will use cutting edge power tower technology with utilizes molten salt. This technology has the ability to generate electricity even when the sun is down or blocked by clouds. All in all, the Crossroads project will be another great addition to the Arizona solar electric industry as it will provide a reliable, green energy generation source.
